Robin and Valerie Greenfield

Mr and Mrs Claus find their dream retirement home (not in Lapland!)

Renting their one bedroom ground floor retirement apartment has given Robin and Val Greenfield the peace of mind they’ve always wanted.

Actor Robin (67yrs) and Val Greenfield (64yrs) who have rented for the past six years, made the move to Waverley House in New Milton, Hampshire in March on an assured tenancy and couldn’t be happier.

Val who works full time as an Activities Organiser in a Dementia Care Home comments: ‘We only moved in in March, but we’ve settled in completely and have made it feel really homely.

Our apartment is cosy but still spacious and even though we have downsized from a two bedroom apartment to a one bedroom place, we did not need to get rid of lots of things. The apartment has lots of space and there’s a cupboard in the hallway which is like a tardis – it just never seems to get full.”

“It is everything we wanted. We were adamant we wanted to find a home which would enable us to grow old in, so we weren’t prisoners in a flat having to go up flights of stairs and we did not want to become a burden to our children. We are really happy to have found the perfect place which has ticked every box for us.”

Robin comments: “We looked around a few properties but were immediately drawn to this one as it was ground floor with some outdoor space. We have a couple of chairs out and we’re already looking forward to sitting out in an evening and enjoying the lovely, landscaped gardens that surround us.”

Married for 37yrs, Robin and Val have even worked together. So much so, when Robin got the part of Santa Claus at Lapland, Val went along too and became Mrs Claus. They spent six weeks incognito in Lapland and were not allowed to even leave the house in case they were recognised.

Since their time in Lapland, Robin and Val have been enjoying getting out and about and are both extremely active. They enjoy going to the Theatre and performing Murder Mystery evenings, running quiz nights and Robin enjoys working on films and TV Series.

They talked about the host of social activities on offer at the Waverley House: “Even though we haven’t had the time yet to make the most of the events, it’s nice to know they are there, especially for when we get older. So far, there’s been a Burns Night, St George’s Day party and there’s even a baked potato evening this week. “

With retirement rentals specialists, My Future Living, Robin and Val have enjoyed a stress-free experience and move. Robin says: “The company made it a very easy process, it was straightforward with no hiccups or issues. Before we moved in, the leaking tap was fixed and the carpets were replaced and whole place was re-decorated.”

“After 37 years of marriage and playing Mr and Mrs Claus, we couldn’t be happier together and we’ve now found the perfect place for the next 37 years of marriage.”
