From Holland to Happiness: Ann Gardner and Her Beloved Harry Find a New Home at Homefarris House
When Ann Gardner, 75, and her eight-year-old dog Harry, moved to a rental apartment in Homefarris House in Shaftesbury through My Future Living, it marked a new chapter in her life. After years living in Germany and Holland, Ann has found the ideal place where she feels independent but is part of a wonderful community that has welcomed her and her four-legged companion.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Holland,” Ann admits. “It was a traumatic move, but as soon as my sister visited Homefarris House and sent me a video, I just knew it was the right place.”

Ann made the decision to move after seeing the video and once she arrived, she knew it was the right one. “The development was beautifully clean, the team were all so helpful, and I could immediately picture myself living here. Another major attraction was the assured tenancy rental agreement which means I can stay for as long as I choose”

Ann’s loyal companion, Harry—a Jack Russell and Collie mix affectionately nicknamed “Mr. Perfect” or “Happy Harry”—has settled in just as well.
She said, “Harry loves it here. We go for lots of walks every day, and he’s even made friends at the coffee mornings, where they give him biscuits!”
Finding a pet-friendly retirement community was a priority for Ann. “Not many places allow dogs, but I’m so happy they do here,” she explains. “Harry is such a big part of my life and having him with me makes all the difference.”
The support Ann received during her move made the transition seamless. “The team from My Future Living have been absolutely wonderful,” she says. “They held my hand throughout and made everything so simple. I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Life at Homefarris House has brought Ann a renewed sense of happiness and connection. With regular activities like Scrabble, coffee mornings, Friday lunches, and art classes, there’s always something to look forward to. The nearby town of Shaftesbury offers plenty of opportunities for exploration, all within walking distance.
“Socially, it’s been wonderful, you can go downstairs and there are always people around with smiley faces. I never feel alone. This is the happiest I’ve been in years.”
For Ann, Homefarris House isn’t just a place to live—it’s a community that feels like home. “I’ve found my place here.”
